15 Online poker giant PokerStars has opened a second office on the Isle of Man as the company continues to expand on the self-governing British Crown dependency. PokerStars moved its headquarters. The Poker Million has been a televised European poker tournament since its inception in November 2000. The final debuted to 30 million viewers and has since remained popular. It was created by UK gaming outfit Ladbrokes with the help of sports promotion firm Matchroom Sport. Every October, the poker room plays host to the Isle Open, which promises in excess of $1.5 million in guaranteed prize money across more than 15 days of poker action. And that is definitely not all! There are regular $50,000 and $10,000 guaranteed re-entry tournaments throughout the year wherein players have been known to fire off several.

The Gambling Supervision Commission is an independent corporate body initially established in 1962 and consists of a Chairman and four members.
In addition to the licensing and regulation of terrestrial gambling operations as the Casino, amusement or slot machines, betting and lotteries the Commission is also charged with the regulation of all online gambling activities.
The Isle of Man is a British Crown dependency located between England and Ireland in the Irish Sea. The Island has the world’s oldest continuous parliament called Tynwald which legislates for the Island.
The regulatory core principles the Commission upholds are;
- to keep the gambling industry crime free,
- to protect the young and vulnerable, and
- to ensure that the facilities offered by license holders are fair and that players receive their true winnings.
Online Gambling licenses are only awarded to companies that have passed a rigorous vetting process. The Online Gambling act 2001 provides that the Gambling Supervision Commission shall not grant a license to any company unless it is satisfied:
(a) that the company is under the control of a person or persons of integrity;
(b) as to the beneficial ownership of the share capital of the company;
(c) that the activities of the company are under the management of a person or persons of integrity and competence; and
(d) that the company has adequate financial means available to conduct online gambling of the descriptions in question.
Your contract with us is governed by the laws of the Isle of Man. Isle of Man law (*) provides that a contract entered into in the course of online gambling is not void or unenforceable solely by reason of it being a contract by way of gaming or wagering. As a result of this online gambling debts are enforceable by law in the Isle of Man.

PokerStars moved its headquarters to the Isle of Man in 2005 where it set up in Douglas Bay Complex on Onchan Head, later purchasing the building in 2012. When PokerStars first began its journey in the Isle of Man, the company only employed five staff. Twelve years later, that number has risen to almost 400.
The new PokerStars office can accommodate 41 members of staff — 20 are currently operating from the new building — and is situated in Quay West on Bridge Road in Douglas, the capital of Isle of Man.
Chief Minister Howard Quayle MHKofficially opened the new office at a ceremony on May 31.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Minister Quayle said: “It is always a pleasure to celebrate success and the opening of these offices marks a double success. First and foremost it is a reflection of the continuing global success of PokerStars. The second success is that of the Isle of Man itself, in providing a great base for global leaders like PokerStars. Maintaining an island of enterprise and opportunity is a top priority in our Programme of Government. We see the role of Government as ensuring the right environment for business to flourish. Flourishing is exactly what has happened to PokerStars since it set up its headquarters in the Isle of Man, and I congratulate you on your continuing success.”
